Molybdenum evaporation boat is high-melting-point, heat-resistant containers made of molybdenum, mainly used in vacuum evaporation processes to carry and heat various coating materials for thin film manufacturing in semiconductor, electronic, and optical industries. These evaporation boats have a groove or depression to hold the evaporant, enabling controlled deposition onto substrates under vacuum conditions.
Molybdenum boats are typically made of high-purity molybdenum (above 99.95%) or molybdenum alloys. They are usually in the shape of rectangular or elliptical plates, with a groove in the middle for holding the evaporant and larger flat or raised surfaces at both ends for connecting electrodes and conducting current. They are key components in vacuum coating processes.
Molybdenum is a refractory metal with an extremely high melting point (about 2620°C), ensuring that the evaporation boats do not melt or deform in high-temperature working environments. Additionally, molybdenum has good high-temperature strength and a low vapor pressure, meaning it is less likely to volatilize and contaminate the coating at high temperatures.
Molybdenum Boat Function:
In a high vacuum environment, by applying a powerful current, it can instantly reach an extremely high temperature (up to over 1700℃), thereby melting and vaporizing the coating materials placed inside or on its surface (such as aluminum wire, zinc sulfide, etc.) into gaseous molecules. These gaseous molecules will then uniformly deposit on the surface of the substrate (such as plastic film, paper, glass), forming a thin and dense functional film.
Product Working Principle
During the vacuum coating process, the molybdenum evaporation boat achieves the evaporation and deposition of materials through the following steps:
- Loading: Place the material to be evaporated (such as metals like aluminum and copper) onto the molybdenum evaporation boat.
-Heating and Evaporation: Place the molybdenum boat in a vacuum chamber and connect it to a power source. Use resistance heating or electron beam heating to bring the evaporation boat to a high temperature. Due to molybdenum's high melting point (2610°C), it can withstand high temperatures without melting or deforming.
- Material Evaporation: At high temperatures, the loaded material melts and evaporates, forming metal vapor.
- Vapor Transport: The metal vapor diffuses in the vacuum environment and reaches the surface of the substrate that needs to be coated.
- Film Deposition: The metal vapor moves upward and condenses on the cooler substrate or surface to form a uniform film.
